These are the natural brass medallions you’ll find in some Colt grips (like Trooper Mk III) from the ’70s and ’80s. Original Colt medallions, made of solid brass.

They don’t have any protective coating, so they will develop a nice patina with time. You can also age them artificially for an “antique” look, either to make them blend in on an old set of grips or just to create a decorative accent. The example in the picture was done by simply wiping it with cold blue and rubbing it with fine steel wool.
